I just can't sit and relax. It's not my nature. Some claim it's due to my "A" type personality. I respond that I've mellowed over the years. I'm now merely an "a" type personality.

I rolled in Friday afternoon, pretty excited about my first camping trip since August last year. The air temperature was cool, but the strong breeze was annoying. I spent Friday afternoon and evening with fellow SouthCoasters Rick Catarineau, Mark Montana, Dave Gutknecht and his friend Mike from the SoCal club. Saturday morning, the consensus was breakfast in Beatty. I wasn't interested in the invariably cold ride over the "hill", so I opted to stay in camp and catch up with some of my Airhead friends most notably Bob Shilling, retired fellow structural engineer and my "mentor" to the BMW culture.

Upon hearing the news that there was a 70% chance of rain Saturday night (with snow in the passes), my 75% chances of leaving Saturday became 100% and I was on the road a little after 1 pm. I took the southerly route out of the valley because I had never taken 178 all the way to Shoshone. Unfortunately, that route put me on the I-15. Note to self: Hwy 395 is a much better (and shorter) route. I pulled into the garage right at 7 pm, amazingly avoiding the weather even though it looked ominous approaching the Cajon Pass.

Upon my arrival home, I received news that my SaddleSore 1000 ride documents were accepted by the Iron Butt Association. No longer do I have to rationalize my preference to rides of 400-600 miles on tight, twisty roads. Hallelujah!
